As the tides ebb and flow, so too, do the fortunes of life. Footprints in the sand are washed away; driftwood moves on in its endless quest for a peaceful harbor. Only a deep and abiding love can withstand the tides of change in two lives.
The love of this couple,_____ and ___ is enduring and profound. We gather here to witness this love as they renew their vows with each other. We join in our support of them. We celebrate their joy, their love and their expectations

On behalf of the (bride) and groom, I would like to express thanks and gratitude to you all for joining them on this very special day. They would also like to acknowledge all those very important persons involved in their lives who are no longer with us physically but remain with us spiritually in our hearts. For it is the love, strength, support, and encouragement of all their friends and family that has helped to carry (groom) and (bride) to this glorious day. The love that is shared and expressed here today is inseparably joined to the love that has created and molded their unique lives.
Invocation (this is the beginning prayer to “invoke” or ask god to be present and bless this service)
Officiant: Let us pray
God, for the joy of this occasion we thank you. For the meaning of this day we thank you. For this important moment in an ever growing relationship we thank you. For your presence here and now and for your presence at all times, we thank you. Amen
Charge (The charge is addressed to the couple. It is a preparation for the vows you are about to take).
Officiant:
_____ &_____, you have been married now for ___ years. In these years, through the triumphs and trials of life, you have found the strength in your love and commitment to endure and to enjoy all that has come your way. You have discovered that your relationship has brought you many things: strength, commitment, sharing, challenge, communication, forgiveness & love.
All successful partnerships require a certain give and take, a “Yin and Yang”.
According to yin-yang philosophy, the universe and everything in it is both constant and an ongoing cycle. One force dominates and then it is replaced by the opposing force.
The yin-yang is very much like a marriage. Not only do the light and dark require the equal presence of the other for balance, they cannot exist without the other. For within each half, there is a small circle of the opposite color, a small circle which shows that nothing is absolute. In all yin there is a bit of yang. And within all yang there is a bit of yin. Each exists in the other and each needs the other to exist.
Marriage is the joining of the yin & the yang. In all the scripts of weddings past, we see examples of the two halves of the cycle. We ask the bride & groom to share:
the good days & the bad
the times of wealth and those of poverty
the hours of health and those of sickness
the creation of life and the sorrow of death
Their differences are a source of strength and balance for they are guided by the purest of motivation. They wish only for the happiness and well-being of the one whom they each love most in the world. Today they honor one another as man and woman, partner, lover friend and acknowledge that the life force or spirit within each of them as unique, beautiful and divine in nature.
___ and ____ you have now come to this beautiful setting so that you could renew your vows and commitment of love for each other. To promise to continue to nurture yourselves, each other, and the yin and yang in this union; and to acknowledge its centrality in your lives.
As you continue on your journey together, I ask you to remember this advice:
Let your love be stronger than your anger.
Learn the wisdom of compromise, for it is better to bend than to break.
Believe the best of your beloved rather than the worse.
Confide in your partner and ask for help when you need it.
Remember that true friendship is the basis for any lasting relationship.
Give your spouse the same courtesies and kindness you bestow upon your friends.
Say I love you every day.
_____&_____, I remind you that marriage is a precious gift, a lifelong dedication to love and a daily challenge to love one another more fully and more freely.
With this understanding, do you (groom) continue to take (bride) as your beloved wife? Will you continue to be a tender and faithful husband?
Will you continue to love and cherish her, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, and keep yourself solely unto her?
Groom: “I do”
